PropelU And Positive Technology: Success At Your Fingertips
"We want everything now and we want it yesterday.” My college advisor once said this during a Dental Public Health course. It always stuck with me and although she related it to consumerism, I thought of it whenever I envisioned success for myself. Success for me has always rested around personal growth. Am I better than I was yesterday? Did I learn something new today? Did I set things in motion for a better tomorrow? I ask myself these questions daily.
As you grow as an individual, your needs and demands increase. Your attention is pulled in numerous directions and you work on ways to ensure everything is taken care of accordingly. Our tablets, phones, and now possibly glasses and watches control our lives and have become an extension of our body. There is nothing wrong with that. Mostly, it depends on how you define control. Work emails, appointments, social media, phone calls, text messaging, reviews, games, and books — we are ever-present on screens. Always watching something. Reminders, news, pictures, memories, schedules, flight deals; these ‘somethings’ become topics of discussion. They dictate where you go, what you do, what you wear, and trickle into who you become.
All it takes is a tap of your index finger on a power button and everything is yours. Information has never been more readily available than it is now. You can learn about anything from any location on this earth as long as you are connected to the internet. With the ability to have extensive knowledge comes the ability to have extensive power. Knowledge is power. With power at your fingertips why not use it to create a better version of yourself? Power to achieve your dreams, power to create, power to grow, power to teach, and power to connect. Power to be powerful in whatever sense of power you desire.
A new wave of technology coined “positive technology” is picking up speed to provide you with power. Whether it's positive reinforcement through stories and quotes, quizzes to train your brain, or inspiration that wakes you up from the lull and frustrations of everyday life, positive technology is being created to help make a better version of you. In essence most technology is positive. Pacemakers, streetlights, airplanes, and air conditioners in South Florida’s yearlong summer; all of these provide a benefit to your means of living. From where I stand in South Beach I am connected with friends and family in Brooklyn, Virginia, Argentina, and Tokyo. I can see the Universe in photos. I can share a funny video with my coworkers and I can let me ex-girlfriend know how happy I am without her through endless photo updates. But there’s so much more we can and should be doing for ourselves.
Enter PropelU, an app produced by Mind Stimuli Labs Co., a tech start-up in the heart of South Beach. Brothers and co-founders Patrick Corbett and Rick Corbett Jr. have a clear mission in mind, “delivering relevant content to the subscriber in small bites throughout the day so it can be consumed anywhere, anytime, to work with today’s on-the-go digital lifestyle.” This relevant content is all about personal development. For PropelU, personal development is “the conscious choice to improve one’s life to become a better person and to grow as an individual.” This is what we all want.
PropelU’s “5 reasons you should use our product” is a standard for what growth experiences should include: skill development to enhance your capabilities; motivation to keep you on track in case you feel discouraged; achievements to see the results of your work but also the ability to quantify your progress; community to help us learn and grow together, therefore allowing us all to succeed; and simplicity to ensure functionality at any given moment while also ensuring everything you receive is relative to your goals. Twenty pieces of fresh, goal specific content are delivered to you daily to ensure you stay on track. Then, set a timer to remind yourself to take 3-5 minutes out of your busy work day to train your brain for personal development. Not sure what’s next? Check the goals section to follow the plan you setup for yourself. If you follow the system, PropelU will “help you take intentions and turn them into results.”
For Patrick, CEO of Mind Stimuli Labs Co, this has been a project in the making since his high school years. President of the Junior Achievement Club, whose motto was “turning today’s kids into tomorrow’s entrepreneurs,” Patrick got into personal development at the age of 17. “I learned early on that you can’t always control what happens to you but you can control how you react to it. I always worked hard, made a lot of good decisions and made a lot of bad ones too. But I always used them as a lesson. What to do and sometimes what not to do.”
Rick, President of Mind Stimuli Labs Co., has spent over 25 years in personal development and business ownership. Combining his passion for ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and his ability to create success for any brand, Rick envisions PropelU being the catalyst to “help people live a life where anything is possible.” Recruiting Ingrid Serrano has advanced the mission. As Chief Technology Officer, Ingrid’s role is to guarantee that the system, content, and user experience is flawless. Ingrid spent 16 years in IT starting as a software developer. She then worked her way to Chief Information Officer for the largest multinational horticulture company in the world. No longer desiring to work for a creator, Ingrid is giving entrepreneurship a try to become a creator.
With these three being the driving force, PropelU aims to lead the way in the positive technology market.
